However big or small an event - whether it's a wedding, a festival, a charity fundraiser, a corporate celebration - one of the most common questions that the person organising those events will always ask is, ‘should I hire an event photographer?’ Yes, yes, a million times yes, and here are five reasons why.
OK, this sounds pretty self-explanatory, but the most obvious reason to
hire an
event photographer is simply for the quality images that you’ll get back at the end. Ultimately, you'll get professional photos if you hire a professional photographer.
Come on, you’ve spent months, if not years, planning this event. Make sure somebody is there to capture it - and capture it well. We’ve heard horror stories of brides crying over low-resolution, fuzzy photos after asking a snap-happy wedding guest to take on the photographer role. It’s just not worth it.
Event photographers don’t just know how to tell a story, but they want to tell a story. While amateurs will be able to get a good angle or make sure the lighting is right, it’s that experience, the artistic sense, that distinguishes a professional event photographer.
If you plan to distribute these images to the media, then hiring an event photographer is a no brainer. Crisp, high-quality images are more likely to be picked up by the press and demonstrate a strong, professional brand image.
Of course, high-quality images also make great social media content - and the re-usable kind. After all, once the event has finished, is there anything better than shouting about it across your social channels and showing off all of your hard work and efforts? This is especially important if you’re an organisation or charity looking to engage with both new and current customers or supporters.
As an event organiser, you might be tempted to take on the role of photographer yourself but really, aren’t you already spinning enough plates? Let’s be honest, if you’re busy making sure the event runs smoothly, realistically, you simply won’t have the time to take quality photos.
And before you consider asking a guest or attendee to take the photos, would you not much rather them enjoy the event? While it might seem like a nice idea to give your best pals the responsibility of capturing your wedding day, it’s worth asking yourself whether you want them to feel that pressure instead of celebrating with you.
Imagine this, you’ve decided not to hire an event photographer but instead take on the role yourself, or have asked a colleague to play chief photographer, but when you come to the end of the night, you realise you’ve lost or broken your phone or camera (the source of those images). Needless to say, you would be utterly devastated, right?
This scenario can be prevented by simply hiring an event photographer.
